hmmmm ...

I was just about to retire for the evening and decided to try registering a new name in with the new site. worked fine. logged in and voila .. everything works now.

I'm guessing whatever table the Find a user button requires is not assembled until a new user is registered?

Strange .. just hope it continues to work
