Ok, the .htaccess tip removed the error messages, and let the user login proceed to the account screen (though it was missing the actual account stuff).

I'm still having the login problems, but that is something that I can find solutions to. I had searched the forums for the error messages I was getting and didn't find any posts concerning them, which is why I made the post.
