Sorry for the bump on an old topic, but I am actually having this same issue now, where it was working fine before and all other login issues I came up with in search seem to focus around the security image which I am having no problems with.

First I broke a cardinal rule of Modding/adminning.. A slow progression of changes and testing. As I've made it a habit (Now knowing its the wrong thing to do) of not logging out I didn't catch when this problem kicked in and therefor am having a hard time trying to figure out where the problem may be.

Current Problem:

Attempting to log in through the Site Visitor block or the stock Login block that comes with 6.5 just refreshes the screen. Logging in through the "Your Account" interface stills works fine.

Running 6.5(final) with the PHP-Nuke 6.5 Bug-Sec Patch 3 applied. I have a modified (only image and css changes) fiblue3d theme up with no other themes available and the latest Advanced Forums News from PortedMods.

At first I thought it might be an issue with an incorrect implementation of Advanced News (and it might still be) as thats the only real change I've made to site but still had the issue when removing it has the "set as home" module.

Ran analyze, but nothing really stood at for me as a problem, but I don't know really what to look for as I'm still new to PHP/mySQL coding.

Any info as where to look to fix this would be appreciated. Oh, and I tried to compare the login sequence in the Your Account with the Site Visitor block but have to admit I got lost and just sorta stared at the screen pretending I had a clue.

Edit to Add: Running on a shared host, using FreeBSD 4.7

ok, things just got stranger.. atleast for me.

I tried the fix posted here by Jojostar and it worked..sorta.

I made the changes, uploaded the new block (I edited my current visitor block, as it seems to be a more recent version than JoJo's), flushed all my cookies and tried to log out and log back in with IE. No luck. On a whim I booted up netscape and tried to log into the site using the block. Surprise, Surprise, it worked.

I went into IE, set pretty much all my security restrictions to non-existent and flushed the cookies. Went to log in with the block, still no dice.

I'm pretty much at the end of my knowledge on what it could be, actually was at the end of it a while ago. It *seems* to be an IE specific problem, possibly to do with cookies. I'm just waiting for it to become a reasonable hour so I can get some people I know online to logon and try it out on their systems with IE.

Same problem !
I'm having the same problem at the moment.

Both logins; the standard and the site-visitor-block-login don't work anymore. They just refresh the screen.

Ditto... same issue here. After the initial install, I went to index.php, entered the info to create the SuperUser and first account and it never let me login. It did create the SuperUser and first account in the database with no issues, but it just refreshes the login screen.

Now somehow, I screwed it up even more. I can't even get the index page to display... when I go to the site, it just gives me a blank screen with no errors...

Oops... call me an idiot on the second part of my post. I fixed the blank page issue... it really helps to start MySQL before accessing the site... hehe

As far as the login part, when I try to login it gives me the error "Login Incorrect" when I know the login is correct...

Figured out my specific problem finally... feel absolutely stupid...

Here's the deal... when you originally create the SuperUser and Allow the system to create a regular user, make sure you only use 10 characters or less. My password was 11 characters... once I stopped at the first 10 characters of my password, boom! I was in.

My problem was a stupid user trick. Resolved.
