i can see this is a relatively old thread. however,

i had major problems with ie6sp1. when i had the problems you talked about i tried doing the uninstall where it went back to 'previous windows configuration', but it deleted loadsa system files in the process. normal ie6 works fine for me, and im not planning on upgrading to sp1 again.
