I have tried making changes in blocks tables before and any little change I made gave me huge errors! I didn't really understand what to delete because some of the code was just characters. Is this because I used a text editor to edit vs using a mysql front-end?

The best protection I found is making a zip copy of my DB's before ever adding any sql's to the DB. Then if I get errors I can replace the entire file instead of editing it.
