Hi!

I recently signed up for an PHP-Nuke enable account with an ISP. Their standard version was 4.3.1, so I purchased 7.6 and followed the installation proceedures to the best of my ability.

I installed all the new files into the appropriate directory, created an new db user, and modified the upgrqade4.3 file to include my detailed db and user information. When I tried to call the upgrade file using my browser, problems connecting to the MySQL database began.

I contacted my ISP's help desk who provided some assistance outside of the scope of their normal service. To make a long story short, I now get connected to the db, but I get the following error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '=', expecting ')' in /home/gliderri/.panel/web/portal/73/config.php on line 91

I looked at the config.php code and could not find what appears to be a syntax error. Here's the code string from line 91 of my config.php file:

I will glady provide a copy of my config.php file for further review.

I'm hoping this is a simple error that I'm overlooking and that fixing it will require only a minor correction.

from 4.3 to 7.6?
yuk, just delete everything to do with 4.3 (if that truly IS what they offer) and start from scratch or you'll never get past all the problems.
just follow the instructions in the install files, it's pretty simple.

Thanks for the advice. Will that trash the content pages I've already built in 4.3, or will they be preserved?

yes it will, go into your phpmyadmin, find nuke_pages and export it separately, then once you are all set up, you can import it back.

i'd suggest you export your whole database too, just in case.

i doubt the nuke_pages table has changed, but i can guarantee a quite a few others have, so alot won't be usable after.

i'm just guessing on some of this, i've never even heard of anyone using that old a version, lol

I appreciate all your advice and willingness to share your knowledge. I got a PM from Marty offering to help me. We walked through my config.php file and decided to blow it away and start over with the one I downloaded with the Nuke 7.6 application.

Anyway, the problem with the parsing error went away once I used the new file. The problem with connecting to the MySQL server was because I did not have the proper db prefix specified in line 57 of the config.php file (I left it blank. I should have looked a the prefix assigned by my ISP when the Nuke 4.3 install automatically generated the Nuke db and input that value.)

My content pages were preserved without problems, so that fear has been assuaged. Things are as they should be right now and I'm proceeding along as planned. Check http://www.gliderrider.com in a few days to see what I've done.

it's my way of "paying back" the people who have helped me so much along the way.


i actually just came here that day to look at one of the themes, to help me figure out an issue i had.

glad it all worked out for you, use the search here, and google for any help, i find that the best way to learn, asking in forums tends to get the answers, which is good, but you don't learn nearly as much.
