Open your themes folder
Your theme
in there is file called theme.php
you will have this near the top
$bgcolor1
$bgcolor2
$bgcolor3
$bgcolor4

I prefer to open the .hlml files and edit through there.
e.g. open Header.html and change the #FFFFFF codes to ???
open Footer.html.....

as an example in my site
www.bf2-outpost.com i used the Nuke News Theme but changed the colors to black and grey.

another i used the DeepBlue theme and changed he images and background.
www.outpost-gamers.com

hope that helps a little. : )
