I don't think you can use the Hack if you Don't let your Unregistered users at LEAST View the Forums.

Try that.
Set all Forums Permissions Under VIEW to ALL. They still won't be able to read any topics, they will only be able to VIEW the Forums.
And also make sure in Nuke Admin/modules, that Forums is set to ALL USERS. Once in the Forum, unregistered users will be under the Forum control and will only be able to VIEW the Forums.
