I tried setting the forum permission to view-all and read-reg and nothing shows up in the last 5 forum posts block. It did fix the registration problem though I have removed the block.

If anyone happens to know what needs to be edited in the block so it will display the posts, but only allow registered users to view the actual posts I would be extremely happy.
