You can still loggin through YOUR ACCOUNT page. You don't have to only rely on that block. 8)

Also make sure that you have the code_bg.gif image in Your Account images folder.

P.S. I've just downlaoded our 6.5 user avatar Site visitors block, put it on my test site and it works perfectly for me.
