Which browser do you prefer and Why?
Well, since we seem to get off on tangents on this subject here and there, let's start one for it.
The topic title asks it all.

I put up a poll too just for giggles. If I missed any browser types, please mention it :-)

Please mention any difficulties when installing "off-brand" browsers.

Now that I learned to hack IE's GUI, I like it again. I'm using Y'z toolbar in this ScreenShot!! http://martingy2k.no-ip.com/Out-Going/ie.jpg

I like Phoenix the best because it's most customizable, and just as fast as Opera (which claims to be fastest). Most of the new browsers have tabbed browsing, which about makes IE obsolete.

well, right now, i use both opera and mozilla (im running mac os 9/X ). this is mainly because i cannot fix my IE (every time i open it it freezes my comp).

if i need speed, i use opera. but the version i have for mac does not incorporate all of the graphics and text boxes like it should, so i use mozilla for quality.

if mozilla ever releases phoenix to the mac, ill probably switch over to it and try it out.

or when i install linux (which i cant do now because i need to re-partition my harddrive and i need a copy of my HD (note: my burner is broken))

I just downloaded Phoenix to see how it is. I like it. Easy to use. All you do is extract the contents then create a shortcut to the .exe.
It does seem faster than IE. I'll be downloading Mozilla and Opera tomorrow to compare more.

Phoenix all the way.
Basically, you can look at it like this:

IE users are just people who haven't tried Phoenix yet, that's all...

And now with the news that Mozilla is going to drop their current browser and use Phoenix in it's place, it will just get that much better.

IE is missing two absolutely needed features.
1. Built in pop-up blocking. No hokey add-on programs, no proxies...
2. Tabbed-browsing. All it takes is a one try and you'll never go back.

IE is leading the field in security exploits however, so I have to give them credit for that...

Since I've made Phoenix my default, I have never seen an unrequested pop-up window. Think about that.

LOL, by looking at 2,3,4 it seems clear that you haven't tried Phoenix.

Phoenix has everything that Opera has (tabs, skins), plus it's free. Opera wins on the speed front. I give it that.

IMO, Opera would come in 2nd. It is the ONLY browser of the poll that isn't free. That's a big negative to most people. Banner supported *is not* free. Free means no banners, no limitations, etc.

The thing I don't like about Opera (besides cost) is that it's the most "different" from IE/mozilla/etc in terms of the GUI. I imagine most regular joes don't want something drastically different from what they are used to.

That said, Opera is definitely the only competition to Phoenix at the moment.
