Calling a skin your own - 12-03-2004, 05:06 AM

This may be a dumb question. But all skins made for php-nuke, Invision, etc. are all based off other templates correct? My question is how much of a skin should be edited before you can call it your own? At what point can you call it yours?

Well, IMO you can call a skin as your own if u the original author is you. If you were inspired or used any parts of another template then it's not your and the right thing to do is to give credit to the original author.
For example, As you can see in all of the NM themes give credit to the original phpbb creator and the nuke template was made from the phpbb template, then the original author has his credits, but the nuke theme author is mike :wink:

Not all of the templates/themes are made from others :wink:

Of course I/we take no credit for the graphics/colors/design of the themes we make from phpBB styles. We just get credit for performing the task of creating that matching PHP-Nuke theme.

The actual theme code is GNU/GPL. The only actual parts of a Nuke theme you could call your own would be the graphics and your particular layout. The actual PHP theme files are GNU/GPL. Some of the html that you add to theme could also be called your own if it is your own original design.

The key to it all is ORIGINAL design. Who's is it? THAT would be the Author and thus the Owner.

Ok, this is what I had added on the bottom of my site

-------------------------------------------------------------------

All Rights Reserved 2000-2004 RulersMusic.Com
Site Design (subBlack3d style by Wira CG) Modified By Ruler rulersmusic.com
Web site engine code is Copyright © 2003 by PHP-Nuke. All Rights Reserved. PHP-Nuke is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL license.
Page Generation: 0.171 Seconds

:: subBlack3d phpbb2 style by Wira CG :: PHP-Nuke theme by nukemods.com ::

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been modifying the subBlack3d (using as a template). How is my info at the bottom of my site? Does it cover it?

So I did not remove any copyrights but just added that I modified it.

I am going to change much more on the skin. I am only about half-way done with it.
