Cookie Names....Maybe they are just a little important.
I don't know if anyone has discussed this, I didn't see it anywhere on the site so I figured I would start this off with a little story.

A friend of mine and myself both are running PHP-Nuke 6.5 and phpBB2 forums. Each of us seemed to have a problem loggin in to each others forums and main sites. We would show logged on, when we entered, and couldn't physically log in or do any of the things a logged on member could do. And there was not way of loggin off.

In some instances this would cause our boards and sites to "Lock Up" where no one could log on, or post. They could read the site but if they entered a section for members only would be blocked. This problem would last for several hours, or even through the night and into the next day.

After a couple of days of searching and trying about everything I could think of, it dawned on me. I'll bet we both set up our sites with the same default cookies. Honestly, I don't know how they would effect each other, but I renamed my cookies to a more site related name, and the problem went away instantly. I mean they went away that quick. The same for my friend. We both renamed our cookies from the default and have never had the problem again.

I just wondered if anyone would be able to explain this, or was this just a freak problem that corrected itself and lead me to believe the cookies were the culprit?

In case anyone suggests it, we both went through deleting the cookies and temp internet files in IE several times before we changed our cookies. That never worked.
