php nuke 6.6 --- why pay? - 05-27-2003, 10:18 AM

Hi

I am just curious will php nuke now be chargni for any other updated versions they make?

Will 6.6 eventually become free or what is going on. To me I hat to see you have to pay now to get the new versions - is that how it is now you have to pay to get the newer versions?

Is that ok under the GNL/GNU license?

Thanks
For any information

Poncho

Francisco Burzi ,the developer of PHP-Nuke stated in a deleted news article at his site that only major releases will be available to the public, future 6.x releases will be available only to club members. version 7.0 will be public.

As for the license, I think this is OK under the GPL license. FB can chage for the initial download at his site, but it can re-distributed legally. So if you have a friend or know where to get 6.6 then you can use it at your site with no problem.

The only change I am aware of in Nuke6.6 versus Nuke6.5 is that 6.6 now includes some sort of Topics/News article integration.
All the security fixes you can get at nukecops or nukefixes.com are applied in Nuke6.6.
So if you update to the recent security fixes for Nuke6.5, then you are basically running Nuke6.6 less the News/Topics integration.

At least that is my understanding.

Personnaly I think that not getting the 6.6 for free is not such a big deal, as everyone doesn't really need it, as Mikem says theyr's ony a new news management option that only few will use anyway (it's called related topic, meaning you can link each article you write to one/several linked topic, those will appear in a sideblock under the new full view).

What is more scarry is the new posted a few months ago about a posible use of Zend encoder for future releases. Anyone has an update on this? Cause as I said didn't hear a word about it since a few months so I'm wondering if it's still an option or not.

Sorry bud, but we can't get in the middle of distribution of a Nuke package that is available to only phpnuke Club members.
You are free to advertise your distribution of a free downlaod of Nuke6.6 elsewhere, but not here..sorry. I hope you understand. We just intend to NOT take a position on the whole Nuke ordeal right now.

------------
Is it me, or phpnuke.org have closed their Forums area?

Cheers!

But why would he do that and did not tell anyone? - There is not even a message regarding the shut down. What is he pissed off about? Is it the complaints about 6.6? I know it is his right to shut the forums off and all that, but he should not just leave hundreds of users stranded with no support. This is very immature of him and not very professional. Oh well, hopefully he will open them again soon.

Thanks for the info.
