PHP Nuke Now and Then - 03-06-2003, 08:06 PM

Well it looks as if I've got Nuked at a very special time in the development process of Nuke. Ive got the 6.0 version installed and was reading up on needing to boot out the forum software that comes with the 6.0 version and trying to decide just how to proceed with what phpbb, ported & now a 2.1 version to use.

And of course the day after my installation of 6.0 the 6.5 version came out. This is indeed a very exciting time in Nukerdom. It looks like the ported version has most of the cool mods I want to check out and learn from but the newer version of phpnuke...6.5, looks like it has picked up alot of steam and will be, very soon, wheel rolling over the 6/2.06 ported versions.

I'd like to hear from some of the old time nukers if it makes sense to go ported now with 6.0 installation or hold back, study up on the code and kickoff of my board a little later with 6.5.

Of course like I'm sure most of you were in your early days of site development, I'm eager to get started. But also realize there is much to learn about phpnuke/phpbb before a great "original" site can be developed.

1-Get up and Go...get in the flow...Now?
or
2-Keep on reading and collecting resourse for the newer versions coming out and go...Then?

This is just my 2 cents

Nuke 6.5 is not out yet (OFFICIALLY) Only to Club members.
Probably be at least another month before it is released to the public.

On that note, I say go for it NOW. Get 6.0 up and running good and phpBB port 2.0.6 from Tom's up and going. Run it into the ground if you have to. Better to get your feet wet now is what I say. This will give you a good month to sort of learn the ins and outs of the system so you are more comfotrtabel when you get ready to upgrade.
Then when Nuke6.5 releases, upgrade to it.

No harm in jumping right in the barrell with the rest of us monkeys

Hi Cy4lock
I am with Mikem. You should go for 6.0 with the ported version.Me being a dumbo in php,i've picked up a lot of things from this Forum and the users here are very helpful.

I would suggest you go in for it right now,get the feel of it,and there is always the path to upgrade when 6.5 comes out.

Cheers!!

Thanks guys! I think I'll continue reading about the setup and such and go for the phpbb ported installation over the weekend. I apprecaite your comments and like yourself, I'm learning lots in this and other nuke forums. I like the friendlyness and brotherhood I feel in the nuke groups.
