Question about Admin and Moderator groups - 12-19-2004, 08:35 PM

The different forums here at NM show the moderators to be groups, susch as 'NM Moderators' etc.

I'm new to maintaining a forums which really has many users, so I've never had to set anything up like that. I now have admin duties at a site where such delegation would be *very* useful.

Can anyone tell me how this moderator group is set up and configured, what consideration to make, what mods are neccessary, etc?

TIA!

Whew...GOOD topic title by the way.

*It's more simpe than you think. Don't be intimidated.

*You will have to "play" with the settings(advanced).

What we do here at nukemods, is under the Forum admin area, add a group called "group" under Group Management.
We then modify the permissions to that group under Group Permissions.
eg. what forums they can moderate/control etc.

Then we add users to that group.
Adding a user to a group, though, is not done under the Forum admin. You have to go that group as an admin and "add a user" on that screen.

Hopefully my advice will get you going.

*VERY* cool, mikem. Thanks!

And, yeah, the topic title. I'm a firm believer in descriptive titles...when browsing forums, I generally won't even go into 'Help me,please' threads; Iknow that if I want help from the *right* people, they should know what I basically want before they even open the thread. Everything in the thread is just specifics

okay....so if I have a "Moderators" group and I give that group permission to moderate all of the forums....can I then selectively set my individual moderators users permissions to specify a specific user as moderator of a forum....or will the whole group be able to mod all of the forums? I guess the simplest form of the question is do user privileges override group privileges?

Thanks a ton

also....does designating it as a "hidden" group also make it "closed"
