Spammers have been in. - 06-09-2006, 07:51 PM

The spammers have been to nukemods and are spamming news comments.

You get multiple registrations usually consisting of username and several numbers, ie: username89

I've been getting this on several sites too recently.

Someone with backend access needs to sort this.

Look at the extent of it.

Sounds like the work of bots to me.

I've actually disabled comments to everyone on all my nuke sites due to this issue.

Has anyone made cb aware of this issue?

whoever or whatever it is, they keep registering then re-registering as a different name. Can a bot register and then activate it's account by responding to the Confirmation email or is this the work of actual people?

All I know is I had at least 10 members register, all from either raph.us or angelacrosby.com and spam the crap out of my comment areas. If they are actual people then their the stupidest people I've ever seen.

Some of these members, had up to 20 or more different tracked IP's from all over the planet so maybe I'm wrong about them being bots.

This sounds like what has hit me and I'm wagering that it's here at nukemods as well. There was just way too much happening at three of my sites for it to be anything other than bots.

Thanks for the link myrtle, I'll be sure to join in.

Disabling comments in your news articles, reviews, downloads, etc., will definately help as will keeping your forums accessible to members only. I'm not saying to hide your forums, just limit guests access by allowing them to view, read and that's all. This way they can view the forums, view the forum topics and individual posts but cannot reply or start new posts without registering.
