i put a theme on my site and some of the images are just broken links. how can i find out where in the php script it says what images to use?

on the home page and following the forum link. i've put the theme images into 3 or 4 different folders but still no images. i had an image on the topics page and changed that to whatever i wanted, no problem. but since its a broken image link, i have no ides where its supposed to come from.
