Theme credits - 04-19-2003, 01:06 AM

We've been noticing a disturbing trend of people removing the theme credits from the footer. This is troublesome for multiple reasons.

Most importantly is the issue this could cause with the phpbb style authors. With the change to the way that the forums are handled in 6.5 the forum's footer, where the authors put their theme credits, isn't used.

We are very lucky to have the support of many of them. If the number of people removing the credits continues to grow, we could lose that support, and that is not acceptable to mikem or myself.

Please leave the theme credits intact.

Pretty much the same issue that has plagued Nuke with people removing credits, aside from requesting them not to remove them make sure you ask for an url from anyone requesting help, no url .. no help, no credits .. even less help.

Erm...I'm a bit clueless...I didn't even know people could edit the stuff down there...but it wouldn't matter to me...I test PHP scripts on my local machine using AppServ. I also agree...at one point when someone ask you, you're gonna take all the credits for it which is a bad thing...

On my site, I try to do : "No copyright = No help"
Removing copyright is a real very big problem.
A lot of people remove phpnuke or modules or theme copyright and write their own copyright.
And I when tell them, they say "I don't know, I don't remove nothing!!!" big lie.

In footer.php file from phpnuke we can read :
Quote:
DO NOT REMOVE THE FOLLOWING COPYRIGHT LINE. YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO REMOVE NOR EDIT THIS

Hold on...I have a question...like about 2 months ago, some site using Nuke had a credits page for everything they were using. Like the credits for the DarkBlue theme, the Modules...all that were put on the credits page and not in the footer. Is that even ok?

Yes that would be fine with me...
Kinda like Cyberkiller did on his site here
http://jerlabs.ath.cx/
He moved all the copyright info to an HTML page and then made a simple COPYRIGHT text link. Looks clean and he still retains the Copyright info :-)
Some will argue that this is NOT ok, but IMO it is...

This is the argument that was made with the Nuke copyright also. mikem is comfortable with that, I on the other hand am not. As far as I remember this was not an option that FB was comfortable with either.

I don't want this to become confusing for the end user, so mikem and I will discuss this further as I have a couple other ideas.

Be aware, our decision on the theme credits does not mean you can move the Nuke copyright.

I'm not game to moving them either.
