I dont quite understand what you mean, but in the forum admin permissions you choose a field that you've made for the forum and set who can see that section.
i.e. General Discussion - you would say set All to view it. If it was an admin section, you could say only admin/mod could view it, or even make it a private section.

Have you set up usergroups for your forums?
I workout who can do what and see what via the usergroup permissions.
Normally they only show up if you have set a forum section to private veiwing only.

This only shows up if you set a forum to "Private" and then you can select for each user if he can get access

ALL
REG
PRIVATE
MOD
ADMIN
Those are the selections that SHOULD be showing in your dropdown list under Forum premissions.
If they are not there, make sure that you definately have all the Forum's appropriate files uploaded.
I can't see any reson they should not be showing up. :?

Mikem, I don't think he means that,
he's talking about the users permissions, not the forumspermissions, with user permissions those little dropdownboxes only show op for a forum that is set up as PRIVATE in the forumspermissions. He asks why the boxes don't show up in userpermissions.

That's normal, but when you set a forum to PRIVATE the dropdownboxes appear to give that user a PRIVATE access to the PRIVATE forum
Sorry for putting it like this but it's to make sure everybody understand this

Right. So basically. First you go to Forum Permissions. Set that Forum permissions for View, Read etc to PRIVATE.
Then go to a Users permissions and under Advanced mode, you should se this
