View Topic Width Help - 12-16-2005, 09:52 PM

I have the phpnuke themepack for MsTrenches. I manually set the width to 95%...up from the default 80% and also removed the left side boxes when viewing the forums.
The site is looking good but one thing that i have found to be annoying and several members have posted about is the fact that when you go to view topic...some are wider than others and you have to scroll over to read the whole thing...this also throws the 95% theme size off and makes it wider which makes the banner not line up properly. Is there a way that i can force the theme to stay the same size no matter what??

also...if anyone has experimented with changing the colors around i would like to hear any input on how to change the background of the topics and such in the forums...possibly make them darker so the lighter text is easier to read...

a problem i just noticed while typing this is that the sig character limit isnt right, i have it set higher in the admin panel but it wont even do 250 characters....

thanks for any help

I have exact same problem. I am using MsTrenches also but i didn't change any width for the site or forum. When I go to view topic it shows way to wide and have to scroll....
But all other stuff like index page or view forum are fine just a view topic.

If anybody can help me fix this that'll be great.

Thanks

EDIT:I just rid of left side blocks and forum look fine now.

Without a link I can't be specific about your site, but large pictures, etc will throw the tables off. This isn't really a theme issue as it affects all of them.

You could use photoshop (or your editor of choice) to modify the topic background (brown_bg.jpg).

The more we learn... the more we realize how little we actually know.

yeah i looked at all the image files and none correspond with the background color of the viewtopic....when i right click on the topic and go to save image it comes back brown_bg.jpg but if i click somewhere else where the color is definitely a darker brown it also comes up brown_bg.jpg...so it must be coded and not an image file im thinking..i just don't know which file to look for it in...

as far as the other issue i found a way to incorporate wordwrap but before messing around with any files i asked everyone what resolution they were using when viewing the site and forums

everyone using a higher resolution...minimum 1152x864 reported no problems and didnt have to scroll whatsover..unless of course someone posts a huge pic...i tried this and it works great, i feel stupid for not doing this sooner...i know some websites are designed for certain resolutions...is the resolution written into the mstrenches theme?? basically...is it possible to change what resolution the website would be viewed at?? That way if someone was using a lower resolution it would still look like 1152x864 or whatever it was set at...sorry..that might be a stupid question but i thought id ask anyways

thanks for the feedback

Is it possible that the background colors your trying to modify are not images but hexadecimal values in the .css?

The best tip I can give you for figuring out exactly what hex. values affect certain parts of your site is to pick an absolutely, blindingly aweful color value such as #99ff33, #ff00cc. Use one of these values to replace existing hex. values, resave, re-upload to your server, refresh your page and you'll see right away what it is you've changed.

Here's a decent enough hex. color chart for hex. values: http://html-color-codes.com/
