Ok, I'm using the gallery file provided in the previous gallery post, ie gallery-1.3.3-Nuke6.5.zip. The host uses PHP 4.2.2 and Apache 1.3.22 or 1.3.27 (getting 2 version #'s on the phpinfo.php page), and I did not create an Album folder yet.

1 I uploaded the files via FTP and used SSL to do the "sh configure.sh" thing.
2 I navigate to the gallery directory to start the configuration wizard
3 I get the following warnings...

Serious Warning!
Safe Mode is enabled on this server. You must disable it before you can use Gallery.

Warning!
I can't find NetPBM.

Warning!
I can't find ImageMagick.

Warning!
I can't find jhead.

4 The PHPinfo.php file indicates the following (as per the Serious Warning suggests I look for). The first value is Local, the second is Master.

As you see it says the Local Value for safe_mode is On. This I asume is the problem. Through the tshooting and FAQ's I've gone through, it is suggested that I run PHP through CGI mode

My questions begin with....

1 Is disabling SAFE_MODE something I can do, or must my web host do that?

2 If it is not possible then I must run PHP in CGI mode. How do I go about that and is it difficult?

Well, it is not recommended that Safe Mode be disabled, it needs to be to get gallery running "easily"

I have attempted to run gallery with safe mode enabled and follow all the steps on Menalto's site, but have been unsuccessful.

And yes, it is a server side issue that your webhost can turn off and on. Sometimes they give you access to do so. Check with them.

Thats realy poep M8. Because the gallery rocks! I got it just installed and it is super. Not to make fun of a not working gallery here, but just saying not to give up and contact your host. I did nothing special to set it up and used the ImageMagick option.

Did you use the updated files for 6.5?

I dont know where ImageMagick from, i guess its in the Gallery pakkage.
NetPBM doesnt seem to work (even with the extra bin files and so on installed)
Jhead was not there either, but it works fine anyway. So i guess the best thing to do is getting ImageMagick to work.

I use gallery with netpbm and it works as intended, i do know one of netpbm's files had to be renamed, don't recall which but it is posted at menalto's forum, many people download the incorrect version of netpbm (which is available at the menalto site) and many others forget that the files must be uploaded in binary mode and chmod to 755, else they don't work.
