Blocking Post Count

Hi I'm part of a community useing nukemods, and we were wondering if it was possible for one of our forum threads to not count towards the post count for each user. ill explain in detail

We have certian members who, to pass their time post in out spam thread. There are many topics and many posts. We however would like to block the posts from counting towards these members post count.

For example i have X+Y=Total amount of posts, where has X=Normal thread posts and Y= The spam thread and its topics. I woudl like it to be X=post count and compeltely cut out Y all together.

Is this at all possible

Unfortunately phpbb2 doesn't have the ability to limit post counts on certain forums or threads. There is most likely a mod that would add this option, but you would need to try it on a test board to make sure it's compatible with the nuke port.

phpbb3 does have this option without mods, there is a phpbb3 nuke bridge available here.

I know my response doesn't really relate to your functionality/modability question but I'd like to add input from another direction if you don't mind?

As webmasters/forum owners/admins/staff, we're constantly being bombarded with decisions that directly affect the health of our online communities. What you should have are clear guidelines on what constitutes acceptable forum behavior backed up by clear policing guidelines and a history of clear and decisive infraction based policing.

If this user/users are habitual troublemakers then you police them based off the infractions they commit. If their spamming to pad their post counts simply warn them such action will result in a 10 or 100 or 1000 post reduction in their total count. It's extremely simple to login to mysql and alter a users post count (if you need a how to I'll gladly provide one) to alter any information contained in the db.

CMS's are great as they allow for endless config. possibilities but regardless of how feature rich and robust they may get, there will always be those that test your sites imposed limits. The only way to ensure your site runs in the manner you wish is to draw a line in the sand and enforce it.

I'd also suggest that you create a policing forum with ban and warning sections and create a user based infraction history. This way all future policing will be done off fact instead of someones hazy memory which is not only fair but unarguable.

Again, my apologies for hitting this tangent but I firmly believe the answer to site issues is not always mod/addon related, much can be solved with solid forum policy and a staff that is willing to stand behind it.

this is a endorsed spam thread room and we encourage it we are just trying to block the post count

i dont know alot about bridges, would u mind explaining or is all the info on the link u gave me

If you guys are promoting spam anywhere onsite then it's going to be hard keep it from the rest of the forums. Maybe I'm lost but I see no reason why you would want to promote a spam forum and then punish users who actually post there

All info will be contained both in the link and respective software downloads.

Make sure that if you are to move to a phpbb3/phpnuke installation, you try it first on a test site, NOT A LIVE SITE. This way if something goes wrong, you do not lose all the hard work that has gone into your live site.

It's also best to copy your current database and then upload it to your test site. This way you can see exactly how your site will end up once it's been upgraded.
