Getting admins
I have my php-nuke 7.x site set up and running. But I'm having troubles setting up other admins.

I've tried setting up an admin account (in the editADMIN panel) and then telling my friend to sign in under that name/pass but it won't let them sign in. I then tried to change an existing user to admin but found I couldn't figure out how to do that?

Can anyone help me? Also is there a safe way to change my username? (when I set up the nuke site it only let me enter in like 10 letters so my whole username couldn't be used...and well it just looks funny :P)

Thank you.

the only thing i can think of is to go in to your SQL ( back it up first ) and remove NUKE_AUTHORS and then take a fresh one from the supplied SQL that you and extract the same NUKE_AUTHORS and replace it . w:

Try updating your site with the latest Fix pack from Chatserv for your version of Nuke.
http://www.nukeresources.com
You also need to check your _authors table against a stock _authors table and make sure you have no added or missing fields.

ok, did the update, found out how to check the fields in my nuke_authors table (using phpMyadmin) but how do I find out what the stock_authors table looks like?

When I installed php-nuke there's a thing that my web server provides that installs it for me so I don't have to upload/download anything or set up the mysql database.

I guess I'm a little confused

(thanks for helping though )

Another reason I like doing things myself. How do we know what the heck your webhost even installed? Did they install the correct database for your version of PHP-Nuke? Who knows.
Get a fresh copy of your version of Nuke at phpnuke.org
Extract all contents to a folder on your PC. Look at the nuke.sql file. It has the info for the tables.

I did that, all the right things are installed in the sql database.

and I still can't just set a user as an admin?

one thing that I may be doing wrong...if I set up a new admin with say the name "user". This name being the same as their forum sign in. Then assign a password for them.

Then do they have to still go to the www.mysite/admin.php page to log in as admin? or should it let them automatically be signed in when they log into the forums?

(I just tried this on myself, I got logged out and figured out how to get back in)

if this is the case I guess I could always create admins, I was just understanding it wrong.
