HTML displayed when viewing private messages
Hi people...

I'm having an issue with private messages.
Since my last update (to 7.8) private messages edition has changed, now it has some "rich text" look which is ok, BUT.
Emoticons do not work, and displyaing a private message i get something this:
<div>Boas,

disseste que o problema das noticias estava resolvido! Ainda bemq ue está! Quem é que vai tratar disso por curiosidade?</div>

<div>Abra&ccedil;o!</div>

<div>PS Já agora, tenhor ecebido as PM com muitos erros e codigos esquisitos. Este novo editor de mensagens também n&atilde;o permite a utiliza&ccedil;&atilde;o de smiles...</div>

Which looks like encoded HTML.
The easiest way is, how can i disable this feature? Get back to old PM management.
The hardest way is, how can i solve this?

TIA

Why not roll back to your previous version?

@Duke. Thanks for your interest and help.

Hmmm...
I guess i could, but that way i loose the objective of an update, which should be improved security and new features.

I've been looking at the code and I think this is more about the theme (phpib2) than about phpNuke itself...

Any more ideas?

TIA

Updating doesn't always help your situation, especially if you’re updating to a version of nuke beyond 7.6. You'll find that many people have issues with phpnuke versions 7.7 and up, so much so that many phpnuke support sites no longer even offer tech. support for these later versions due to vulnerabilities written into the core.

You can patch virtually any version of nuke as many of vulnerabilities have been identified and repaired. Also, the addition of Nuke Sentinal will definitely help to identify and block many of the script kiddies and other wrongdoers looking to do your site harm.

At the end of the day, it is always your choice but IMHO, the latest version does not always equal the greatest version as you have already witnessed in your update.

I apologize if I've gotten off track.

BTW, what is the exact version of phpnuke you are using?

Did you upgrade one version at a time?

I'm using phpNuke 7.8.
I had 7.6 previously, but used Fantastico to update (i know...i know... my hands should've fallen off when i decided to use Fantastico).

A curious thing. When posting articles in phpNuke admin the same "rich text" fields are there, and the articles are displayed correctly in the main page.

P.S.-I have NukeSentinel (tm) 2.4.2pl9 installed.

I didn't even know you could use Fantastico to update :?

Did you update from 7.6 to 7.7 and then from 7.7 to 7.8?

I could only see a link saying "Update to version 7.8".
So i can't really tell if fantastico made a step by step update or just skipped 7.7.

I believe it's likely it skipped the step but I'm not familiar with how Fantastico handles updating. If you check you files via FTP, you should see upgrade files for 7.7 and 7.8, if not then that may be your issue.

Ok.
Just found this on phpNuke 7.8 changes.txt:

Quote:
- Added a great WYSIWYG text editor to ALL PHP-Nuke's textarea fields. Compatible with Mozilla, MSIE and FireFox.
For this was used the great tinyMCE made by MoxieCode Systems AB (http://tinymce.moxiecode.com). TinyMCE is free
software released under the LGPL. All credits are untouched on the files (/includes/tinymce/).
You don't need to do anything if you want your module to use the editor, it automaticaly replaces all and any
<textarea> tags all over the place with the wysiwyg editor. This is what I call "easy of integration". Better
configuration, implementation and cosmetic changes will come in future releases.
So... i guess i just have to find the css file where TEXTAREA tags are set.
Or not?!? :?

Maybe i can disable it somehow in some phpnuke var...

[EDIT]

Found in another line of changes.txt:
Quote:
- Added a new define('NO_EDITOR') method to remove the wysiwyg editor if you don't want it on a specific area
use it as:
define('NO_EDITOR', 1);
just before including the header.php. On this way the wysiwyg editor will not load on that page
[EDIT II]

SOLVED!!

For anyone with the same problem, just get to modules/Private_Messages/index.php and add define('NO_EDITOR', 1); at the begining.
