NOOB Totally jacked up....need help please?
I'm sure someone (beside myself) has done this and I am sure it is not an easy fix so, here I go.

I installed PHPBB with a theme I d/l'd from their "styles" link. Which, my client HATED. So, he refered me to a site that he wanted his site to "emulate" and it was linked to Nukemods so, I came here. Here is where I really screwed *can I say that* up!

I downloaded the theme. Ignorantly installing it in the "templates" folder of /forum/template and going into AdminConfig, I selected "blank" of the theme I d/l'd from you. Well, it didn't work and not only that, gave me an awful error (which I did not save so I am unable to post). Well, so thinking I was smart and all that...dumb dumb DUMB me....goes and delete's all the content for forum only....now there is ONE file that will not allow me to delete the remainder...the evil:

.pureftpd-upload.4557e05f.15.5a36.bf899dc7

So, here I am waiting for support from my hosting company which I believe they are taking the day off for V-Day...I am utterly stuck and *scr3w3d".....HELP!

Well, this morning I pulled my head out of a dark place and installed phpBB-Nuke pack....but am in the process of altering the config.php file only i really can't because I have to reinstall my phpmychat as well as recreate mySQL database....and I can't because my CPanel is telling me that I already have a forum....HELP...HELP HELP!

Please direct me to a post, if this has already been dealt with. I have tried SEARCH but I have not come across anyone doing anything THIS STUPID! *bangs head on desk screaming dumb dumb dummmmmmmbbbb*.

TIA!

not sure what your asking, do you want to repair your phpbb forum package or do a fresh install of php-nuke

php-nuke is pretty standard on cpanels setups either way please explain what your looking for.

BTW : .pureftpd-upload.4557e05f.15.5a36.bf899dc7 is notting you uploaded and it wil dissapere its self after a while

Thank you marty for attempting to help. I am trying to do a fresh re-install of phpmychat for the forum. In order for me to do this, cpanel wants me to delete the old forum which, I can't because of file:

.pureftpd-upload.4557e05f.15.5a36.bf899dc7

which has resided in the forums folder now for 2 1/2 days. It will not allow me to delete the forum, at all. Cpanel has no options for me to delete the entire forum. I'm literally stuck.

So, my question is, how do I best do this? Should I start a whole new forum like name it forum2 (or whatever) and try it that way? I was just hoping I could delete the whole OLD forum, reinstall and then install nuke then the theme...make sense?

This file you speak of has notting to do with what you have installed on the server, its created when a user uploads or downloads files, however it should not still be there after days, it should have deleted itself.

Anyway is there any other files in the forum folder that you need ?
Download those to your desktop if you do..

Are you not able to rename the forum folder to something not relavant /oldforum etc..

When you say delete the forum are you saying your just deleting the files or are you uninstalling the forum from cpanel.

cpanel usualy only allows one instints of each of its addons scripts, it wont allow a second or third forum added to the same site, unless its part of your hosting package, it must be uninstalled from cpanel not deleted from the server.

Marty, thank you! After your first post, I was thinking "duh, why don't you name the old one something else like, 'junk' and just recreate it as forum." which i did and now I am on my way....

I'm in the config.php file right now and trying to fill it out to my best ability. I could really use a tutorial on this part though...I am following the instructions but just want to make sure I am doing this right:

dbhost = "localhost";
dbuname = "MY USER NAME";
dbpass = "MY PASSWORD";
dbname = "MY DATABASE NAME";
prefix = "nuke";
user_prefix = "nuke";
dbtype = "MySQL";
sitekey = "SdFk*fa28367-dm56w69.3a2fDS+e9";
gfx_chk = 0;
subscription_url = "";
admin_file = "admin";

Is everything else ok at default or should I change the rest too?

Again, if this has been answered, feel free to point me the right direction.

Marty, thank you so much. It took your first post to slap me around a bit.

Now, I go and put some bandages on me head!

Ehh...

Yeah but watch out for the correct username and correct database name

with cpanel setups its usually like the following, note the _ underline between details, to comfirm just goto your cpanel and select Mysql there you will see the correct information

dbhost = "localhost";
dbuname = "Username_User";
dbpass = "yourpassword";
dbname = "Username_DatabaseName";
prefix = "nuke";
user_prefix = "nuke";
dbtype = "MySQL";

uploading...

now, in the install packet, since i am using phpMyAdmin, it says to skip the rest and go to step 3:

"3) in order to use the ultramode.tx news file...please be sure to chmod 666. This file is used to show news from your site in some old programs and frontends and is reserved to future use in PHP=Nuke. For backend use backend.php file instead."

I don't have an ultramode.txt. Is this in my NEW THEMES packet cause I don't see it.

Then step 4 says:
"4) That's it!...now you need to edit the file "config.php" to set the database options. Please read carefully the instruction on that file. After that, point your browswer to: http://phpnuke.org/admin.php
We use mySQL as the example and nuke.sql file is in mySQL format because php=nuke was made using this database server. You can find many programs out there...."

Didn't we just alter the config.php? Why would we have to do it again? And...this time it is on the server side so, why didn't we just configure it initially before the transfer/upload?

I know...wat a stupid Noob question!

7.6
www.nukemods.com
index page
under "current versions"

My latest error when trying to connect to www.mydomain.com/admin.php:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/wwwthan/public_html/config.php on line 56

I have opened config.php. I have mine set up as this:

$dbhost = "localhost";
$dbuname = "MY DB USER NAME";
$dbpass = "MY PASSWORD;
$dbname = "nuke.sql"; (IS THIS CORRECT NOW? OR SHOULD IT BE MY db ISSUED NAME)
$prefix = "nuke";
$user_prefix = "nuke";
$dbtype = "MySQL";
$sitekey = "SdFk*fa28367-dm56w69.3a2fDS+e9";
$gfx_chk = 0;
$subscription_url = "";
$admin_file = "admin"; (DO I NEED TO CHANGE THIS?)

I've been unsucessful with this and I know some of you are getting sick and tired of reading my posts but, I am VERY willing to learn. I hope someone will take pity on my and take my hand and lead me in the right direction.

I have my "forum" under:
www.mydomain.com/public_html[/quote]

$dbuname = "";
$dbpass = "";
$dbname = "";

These are the only bits you need to change :

So first things first, lets create a database. Open your cpanel and click on MySQL Database. The first box option on that page is for you to create a database so for example enter the name : nuke you will get a confirmation that database called nuke has been created, now click : Go Back

Next, down the bottom of that page theres a link to : phpMyAdmin

A new window will open and to the left you will find a drop down box with the word Databases in it. Drop the box and click on the name "nuke" which it what you just created.

Above that same drop down box theres an icon with sql writting across it. Click that and a new window will open, theres 3 tabs across the top select Import Files and press browse, now search your PC for the nuke version you downloaded open a folder called SQL inside that folder theres a file called nuke.sql thats what we want so click that and select open. Then finally click the button GO in the sql window.

So far you have now created a database called nuke and you have also filled the database with relavant tables. So back to the config.php file

$dbuname = "this is the username you use to enter into cpanel";
$dbpass = "this is the password you use to enter into cpanel";
$dbname = "nuke";

leave everything eles as it is, it can always be changed at a later stage but not nesassary.

As for links to your site. public_html is root of your site : ie: the files for nuke should start here or somewhere eles if prefered. Which means when you downloaded your nuke version. all the files and folders inside the html folder of your download should be placed inside public_html

If you have uploaded the actual html folder into public_html directory then all the links to your site now become www.yoursite.com/html so with regards to admin.php the link would be www.yoursite.com/html/admin.php and or anybody trying to access your site would have to goto www.yoursite.com/html thats why its best to place the contents of your downloaded html folder directly into public_html

BTW these instructions are for cpanel only. All other servers differ.
