what to use? - 07-26-2004, 03:59 PM

Hey there, just to start off i got to say im totaly new at the developting part of websites.

Heres the deal, i want to make a block on my game squads php-nuke site wich gets the latest matches from the vwar database and outputs it with a link to the specific match (its a db on the same server), but i havent yet figured out if it would be sufficiant to simply create a block instead of a module since this sounds (to me atleast) a pretty straight forward thing to create. I have the basics of how php and mysql works togheter (not sure bout the coding or queries but got myself loads of books wich covers the most). So i guess what im basically is asking for here is a little guide on where to start off, im doing this as a little expirimenting to try and learn php coding and also how i can in the best way get data from the db and output it in the way i'd like.

I know some of you would say "go do your homework and stop bothering us" but i have been trying to start learning php for a pretty long time, but i find it extremely hard since im not sure what i should start with. I've read enought to know what parts of the coding does, but i cant quite get a overview of what im actually doing/or need to do.

If anyone can give me a hand with this i would really appreaciate it.

Thanks in advance
