Bug in phpBB port and private messaging. Nukemods is bugged - 02-26-2003, 02:31 PM

Ok can someone tell me if yall are aware of the bug and private messaging?

This is what happens. When you go to Your_Account and within the box that says:

Your Private Messages

You have 0 private message(s).

Send a Private Message to: [ Browse Users ]

Ok if you just dump someones name in the text box lets say coldblooded because you know he is on this board alot and dont have to [ Browse users ] it will bring up the old Nuke Private message editor. You hit send and coldblooded gets an anoying popup "You have 1 New private Message", everytime you refresh the page.

But you can never read this message because it is sitting within the old nuke Private_Messaging module and didnt transfer to phpBB.

Yes nukemods has this bug so don't do it or coldblooded will probably eventually track you down and keel you.

I did it to myself and I can not get the pop up to stop. I was testing.

Now if you disable Private_messaging in the modules under admin, PM's are disabled within the phpBB forums so its kind of a catch 22.

Now the only site I have found so far that doesnt have this issue is www.2thextreme.org.

When you go into My_Account it doesnt have the private message block but his are still functioning within phpBB. Not sure what MGCJerry has done but he has done it and its working nicely.

I am running Nuke 6.0 and the latest port.

On toms web site if you put in a name within the private message box and hit enter it says sorry file not found. Thats one way to keep people from doing it I supose.

Also you can not turn off pop up messages because it is under the nuke profile editor which you can not get to anymore. An administrator might be able to.

If you need more info or want to see it in action do it to yourself here. DO not I repeat do not do it to someone else. Its anoying!!! I am gonna have to recreate an account I guess thats how anoying the pop up is.

Yes, this has been around for a while. I usually remove that whole table from the Your Account module on my sites.
As far as I can tell, this issue has been fixed in Nuke 6.5

Look in your MySQL database under
nuke_priv_msgs

See if you can find the "culprit" private message that is stuck on your user.
Delete it for the database.

Like I said before though, the only work-around I know of right now is to remove that table from Your_Account page. I just replaced mine on my site with a link to your Private messages inbox.

Can you delete it from this site so my stupid pop up stops. I hate pop ups.

Another work around would be to be point everything to phpbb profile when somone clicks on Your Account but it takes away from some of the functionality of nuke.

What theme?

Uh ok..So you did the Private Message here and it's popping up on you..I'll delete it. (deleted)

I have a temporary fix for you on the PM's on your account page.

open
modules/You_Account/index.php

look for and delete this line
Code:
	    ."<input type=\"hidden\" name=\"file\" value=\"reply\">"
it should be the line right under this
Code:
	    .""._USENDPRIVATEMSG.": <input type=\"text\" name=\"uname\" size=\"20\">$links"
Now when a user types in another uname to send them a PM, and hits enter, it will take you to your Inbox to compose a new PM. Better than it was I guess. It's the same method they are using in Nuke6.5.

Yes thats a little better work around I will try and modify it so it when it inputs a name it bring up the modul for phpBB and has the name in the recipient box already. I would imagine its just a relational thing.
