Closing Registration on PHPNUKE/PHPBB - 01-24-2003, 04:11 PM

Is it possible to close registration on your site? I would like to learn how to do this so we can control the voume of peole who register with us. I had a script to close PHPBB before I used PHPNUKE and Migrated PHPBB with it, but that won't work.

Any suggestions?

well, there is a function within the phpBB administration panel that allows you to require admin activation before the user can post etc. it depends on what your purpose here it...as in, for what reason are you limiting the users.

Because we have way too many members, and with too few Moderators, it's hard to keep people in check. I need a way to prevent people from registering to the site while we work on controlling the forums. I can't just set the registration to Admin, cause then people have no idea what's going on, too hard to inform.

There has to be something logical we can do.

Thanks
Vachi

As renegade said, there is th eoption in Forum Admin to set the registration for users to have to be ACTIVTAED by either THEM following an email link they are sent or by the Administrator activating them.

The only way to use this feature is
#1 Installl our Forum reg hack and then point ALL your Nuke Regitration links ot the Forums registration.
#2 Check this post on how to enable the nuke side to CHECK if the user has been activated or not when they try to loggin.
http://www.nukemods.com/modules.php?...pic&t=738#3324

In that post, Igave the information to modify your Your Accoutn module index.php file first so Nuke checks the User active status.

As I said above, you would need to install our Forum reg hack and then change the links in Nuke to point to the Forums registration.

End result.

Your users sign up on your site.
They see a message on the Screen stating their Registration is under review and they will be notified by email when it is activated. You as the admin will ALSO receive an email stating they have signed up with a link to Activate their status.
Once activated, they will be able to Loggin to your site.
IF they arte NOT activated, logging into your site for them will not happen.

Sounds like a lot of work eh?

We use this Hack here at Nukemods. When you signed up here, you should have rec'd an email with an Activation link and then you were activated. That is simply a USer activation in order to check valid emails.

If you didn't get this activation process on our site here, then we may have applied it after you signed up. Try signing up with a test account here so you can see the process.

Mike

Yeah seems like a lot of work, and I recall having problems with that Forum Hack awhile ago. Currently I have it set up for User acceptance, so they need to use the activation link in the email so we can verify it.

How about this! How about editing all links to new_user. I just don't know where they all are, and the format for it. For instance:

#1- Create Account (header.php of theme?)
#2- New User Registration (Your_Account&op=new_user)

I already removed the text in the user login block.
I don't know how to edit the link for #2. Is there more than once instance of this?

This way the only way they'd register is if they new the path, which I'm not worried about.

Thanks in Advance!
Vachi

Yes, there is more than one instance of Your_Account&op=new_user throughout Nuke.

If you have a PHP editor, doing a find in more than one File is easy.

Basically that is the method we used here. I went through and did a Search in all files for any link to op=new_user and changed them all to the Forum registration link. Basically eliminating Nuke's registration all-together.

If you want me to take a look at your site and help you set this up, PM me. I would be more than happy to help you out.
The registration Hack in our Downloads gives you an idea of What to Search for and also includes the usercp_register.php file for the Forums so you don't have to copy the hacked code to that file.
