That Darn Ephemerid block... q - 11-23-2002, 03:17 AM

Heya guys, playing around with that darn block with the weird name (yeah, the ephemerid one), I think me and my stupidity finally figured out how it works.. It is basically a programmable quote of the day, huh?

Anyway, I was hoping you guys could help me locate the code from which I can extract the "One day like today..." and the year... That is, I either want to modify that text or strip it from the block all together...

As you noticed, I am not really good at programming and dont wanna ruin the block.

Help please?

Maybe it's italian for quote of the day

I looked up ephemerid at dictionary.com and it came back with:

So maybe it is just a "bug" in the code

How? Which file? - 11-23-2002, 10:14 AM

klipywitz...

Ah, you said you figured what file to edit .. but which one!!? I want to do the same thing. I am building a site of vintage bodybuilder lore, and I can use this block to post a changing thing, like ... "On this day in 1948, bodybuilder Steve Reeves won the Mr. blabla competition.." or "so and so died today in 1963" and so on.

Thanks

Ha ha ha. I did the same thing: I went to dictionary.com..

I actually just edited the block-ephemerid, which is actually a programmable quote of the day block. Simple, even for a dimwit like me.

At any rate, yes, it would be easier to just get the quote block; although I downloaded but havent actually played with it, I figure it probably is more customizable/programmable -- I think the ephemerid requires you to enter a quote and specify a day of the year for it to be shown. So, I dont think it would take a randomic approach.

Anyway, anyone use the quote block? How did you like it? Can you make it random or progam the "duration" of the quotes?
