Missing, not broken images. Placeholder only
I've got a strange one here.
A large percentage of the time, I get missing images on the main menu. This is not just within the current theme I am using, but on other sites using different themes as well. I see the problem on my computers, (1) running XP and MSIE6, (1) running Win98 and MSIE 5.5, (1) running Win98 and MSIE6.
I see the same intermittent problem with different browsers too. I see the problem with Opera, Mozilla, and Netscape
From the screencaps above, the left image just shows a missing image, not a broken image, but just the image placeholder. I can right click on it, and select "show picture" and the image appears. Also, if I reload the page, the image will show up (like in the right hand image above)
Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

No, thanks for trying, but I didn't try reinstalling IE.
I'm running different versions, on different PC's. And I also get the same problem with Opera, Netcape, and Mozilla

UPDATE,
After lots of searching, I found this in my web server's error log:
(HTTP code 404) 1300 hits for /themes/NukeNews/images/pixel.gif
Where I don't have NukeNews theme uploaded to my server.
I fixed that temporarily, by creating the folders "themes/NukeNews/images/" and upoading pixel.gif.
However, there is something else missing, because even though I fixed that above missing image problem, I'm still having the same problem. I have researched it, and it is a feature within MSIE that if one image is not loading, then it will stop loading the remainder of images. However, I can't locate any more missing images in the code.
Oh well, I'll keep digging. Will update this thread with answer (if anyone cares, LOL)

Come to think of it I had the same problem with IE and that pixel.gif taking for ever to load anywhere I went where that image was part of a page. Well, now that IE is totally messed up and I don't use it for much I started using Mozilla and everything loads fast. With IE it would take up to two or three minutes to refresh a page on this site. Now with Mozilla it's allmost instantly. And I found an Aqua skin for Mozilla that is soo cool.

Pixel.gif is starting to take for ever to load with Mozilla now. I was having this problem with Internet Explorer before and now with Mozilla. Anyone else have this problem.

HELP
My sites are on a "Screaming server", so that is not the problem.
Mozilla, Opera, Netscape, and all versions of MSIE do the same thing, which is, not displaying the image.
My error logs do not reflect a problem, so it must be some sort of timing issue.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

Check and make sure that the pixel.gif does indeed exist and it is looking in the right place for it.
In a few of our theme packs we found that the pixel.gif is pathed to
themes/NukeNews/images/pixel.gif which is wrong.

yep
Mikem is right about the pixel dot gif file.
i'm still wondering about my issue with unpopulated placeholders.
Damn, I'm getting bald now, scratching my head.
I'll do what Gomer Pyle did, and put a bucket on my head, and take a "BIG THINK" under there.
