News Mod - 02-26-2003, 11:31 AM

Hello everyone,

I would like submitted news items to be linked to a phpBB2 forum so that when one is submitted, a message is created in the forum. If you then click on the comments link on the front page for that news item, you would be taken to the phpBB2 forum.

I noticed that this site does exactly that (or it appears to). I searched these forums and the ones at anors, and I found two different mods. Neither one of them worked, though. They simply allowed me to display topics from a forum on the front page. I want to go the other way - have posted news items create messages in the forum and also show them on the front page.

Did I not do something right with those mods? I'm new at this and would appreciate any help. By the way, I think this is a great site. Keep up the great work!

Regards,
Bill

I've been wanting the exact same thing. I expected one to pop up, but it's never appeared.

I'm hoping it becomes a main feature of Nuke 6.5, but if not, it should still be fairly simple to code. The mods here seem to have an idea how to do it

Sorry but i don't really understand you, the new mod on this site does exaclty the same as the modules on my site (ForumNews), only change from the ones from my site and this site is that the one that is used here is hardcoded (must be modified to fit each theme/template) and mine takes the users template automaticly. But i am working on a other ForumNews mod, which i think is better, It has topics and so on just like the one phpnuke uses only with the one we (mighty_y and me) are developing everything goes through the Forum, one little problem tho it will only work with the new port of http://www.nukecops.com (phpbb 2.0.4). If you are interested in viewing it just go to http://portedmods.sourceforge.net. If you have comments on this module/mod just place it in our forum on http://www.anorscorner.com. I also edittted it so that you can set the max stories in you home in the admin preference.

Thanks for the reply.

I have some questions based on your reply:

1) How do news items get on the front page? I'm assuming you must post in the News forum. Is this correct? Will this mod work from multiple forums?

2) If so, how does the news item then get categorized? Does an administrator or moderator modify the original post to add the category?

I am running the new port, so perhaps I will just give it a go and see what it does. Looks promising so thanks for sharing...

Regards,
Bill

Well you can post in any Forum category you want as long as you have set the permissions of who can submite news to admin or moderator. If you are logged in with your Forum admin or moderator. You will see this (see below this line) when posting a new post.
You can select the Topic you want.If you want users to submit news also you make a forum category for that and edit the stories you want by making them News topics
I am running the new port, so perhaps I will just give it a go and see what it does. Well this mod isn't released yet and need a little bit testing. (Although it is a module it need some modifications to your forum code. I will post a message on my site when it is released http://www.anorscorner.com

I definitely want a way to put topics on the news announcements and have them show up in relevant forums, rather than having everything show up in a generic "News" forum (the way it seems to be here).

I'll post more detailed comments on your site.
