I downloaded the file and it is a .gz so how to I extract it... I can not use winzip cause it just wants to add it to a file so....?

You read the readme, install and other txt files. Make the necessary changes the directions want you to make. Upload it to your server. Follow the install instructions, in the previously mentioned readme, install and txt files. You should be good to go.
