Could anybody tell me how some sites have themes that in a news , they place the category before the topic name like:

downloads : Blah Blah

I suppose its some variable , but I dont know which one.

You need to create news catagories. Go to add story and next to where it says catagory click on add, now when posting news you can select the catagory and it'll show up like you want.
