I am a novice php programmer, and by novice I mean I've only dabbled with php and my knowledge is very limited. I do have the book "Sams teach yourself PHP in 24 Hours" and my copy of Oreilly's "Programming PHP" is on the way.
Anywho, I play the game Quake 3 online a lot. Our site ( www.clan-iF.tk ) is only up due to the numerous people on this site that have helped me. Without this sites forum's...I don't know what I'd have up. Ok, enough rambling. Here's what I'd like to accomplish.

My clanmates and I are looking into starting a league for the mod we play ( Rocket Arena 3 ). The main league is www.rocketarena.org Although there is nothing wrong with ra.org we want something new that will perhaps ignite a fire in our some-what dying community. What I'd like to do is write a module that runs a League, specifically for Q3. I'd like to know if someone could perhaps point me in the right direction of where to get started. I know that what I am wanting to do will be a huge undertaking, but it'd be well worth it in the end. Is what I'm wanting to do a bit unrealistic? Also, if someone knows of a module or script that already exists I wouldn't mind knowing what it was. Thanks =-)

p.s. I also wouldn't mind some advice on steps one should take when first setting out to write a script, or even general programming advice
